Laser or Camera?

It should be noted that the selection of the technology group depends upon the defect types and
sizes. However, in order to "shed some light" on the nagging question "Laser or camera?" the
following broad generalizations are offered:

  • If the key defects are bright field dominant AND relatively low light levels can detect the
defects on-line (easy to see by eye, fairly large) camera systems offer the most cost-effective
    solutions.
  • If the key defects are dark field dominant OR moderate/high light levels are required to
detect the defect on-line OR the defects are small (less than 200 microns), laser systems
    represent the best solution.
