Automatic Inspection, The Multi-Faceted Solution

Automatic inspection represents the means to achieve a simultaneous step-change in yields, quality and costs. An inspection system provides a “window” into the process.  Through this window, three information streams emerge.  These feed back, feed forward and feed upward information streams translate into a set of benefits which directly satisfy the aforementioned business demands:
•     Boost Production Rate
Higher line speeds are possible, as the production rate will no longer be “inspection constrained.”
•     Increase Yields
Immediate process feedback spurs corrective action, substantially reducing waste.  After defects occur, they may be removed in downstream operations; the system records the type, size, location and image of defects in a “defect map” to assist this process (feed forward).  Net results; increased total and highest quality yields.
•      Improve Quality

Quality improves at the point of manufacture and downstream.  System provides the means to “100% certify” product quality.  Dark Field inspection systems also provide automated quality grading of webs and sheets and roll recall reports.

•     Reduce Operating Costs
Manual inspection may be eliminated, on the production line and downstream converting operations.
•     Expand Market Share
Customer satisfaction and confidence is maximized. Sales may employ the “100% certified” capability to secure previously unattainable customers.
•     Tighten Inventory Control
Inventory quality is captured precisely, no surprises.
•     Detailed  Management Information
The data stream may be analyzed for comparison of plant performance by shift, machine, product, etc. In addition, all process changes and improvements can be assessed quantitatively based upon their effect on yield, quality, etc.
